MDS provides both licensed and unlicensed products
in a variety of frequency ranges. This equipment was primarily used
for SCADA (Secondary Control and Data Acquisition) or MAS (Multiple
Address Systems) in the past, and even though these applications
are still required, the move toward TCP/IP communications has forged
to the forefront of the wireless movement. MDS, being ever ready
for the change, has produced a variety of products to compete within
that market place.
TCS Consultants, Inc. had the pleasure of providing one of the
first practical applications of these units to provide mobile data
terminals to the City of Conroe police department. With a growing
need for mobile dispatch centers - the police department needed
a DSL level TCP/IP connection that would reach areas that other
wireless technologies could not. Because of database sync. problems,
satellite interfaces - which are delay problematic - were not an
option, so the system required a single source base that would reach
a specified distance about the city. TCS chose MDS for their reliability,
support, warranty, and willingness to prove their product. The system
has proven to be an enormous success. |
